In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful The Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) was founded in the Holy City of Makkah in the year 1989 by a group of Nigerian Health Professionals performing that year's Hajj.
The Association was subsequently registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (RC NO: 7926) on 11th July, 1994. It was established in Niger State in the year 2001.
The overall objective is to bring into closer union all Nigeria Muslim Health Care Professionals, to render greater services to humanity with the fear of Allah (SWT) in mind always.
It is in realization of this and other laudable objectives that the State Chapters and branches were formed across the country.
Since coming into being, this Organization has made some giant stride towards the realization of its aims and objectives to the admiration of her members in particular and the Ummah at large, Alhamdulillah. A few of these will be mentioned for the records
The Islamic Medical caravan is one project that is dear to our Organization's heart, a medical outreach that is highly mobile; with staff and basic equipment reaching out to the needy populations in remotest areas of our State Chapters. Emergency situations requiring health care and humanitarian services usually received our attention.
The missions usually commences with a needs assessment of Communities health problems by us in collaboration with the Islamic Education Trust (I.E.T) Da'wah Institute of Nigeria (DIN), Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), NASFAT and the Zakat Commission. Both reverts and non-Muslims are treated or given drugs for their various health problems. Some of the clients also undergo surgery at the Hospital under this programme.
These activities involve regular visits to Hospitals, with da’wah and prayers for the patients in the wards. The same approach is applied to the Prisons, Orphanage, Old people homes and Islamic Schools where counseling on health conditions and presentation of gifts is done.
Apart from these, patients who come to health facilities without relations and are poor are equally taken care of, so too is the dead. Gifts in form of clothes (both new and old), food items and essential. As preludes to the Hajj exercises, symposiums on the health aspect of Hajj are usually organized by State Chapter in conjunction with the State Ministry of Health and for the benefit of the members of the public and specifically the intending Pilgrims.
Eminent Islamic Scholars and Health Experts presents well researched papers at such occasion. Also, the Association in collaboration with the State government has introduced 50% Hajj Subsidy Scheme to members to enable at least 10 of our members join the medical team annually. So far, over 60 of our members have benefitted from this scheme.
The newly established Hajj and Umrah Savings Scheme will make it easier for more of our members to undertake Hajj and Umrah exercise with ease.
